il Center for Applied Animal Behaviour (centro per lo studio del comportamento
animale applicato), è fondatore dell' APDT (la maggiore associazione mondiale
di educatori cinofili), scrittore di libri e opuscoli sul comportamento del
cane ha prodotto anche diversi dvd per la formazione degli addetti ai lavori; “Sirius Puppy Class Redux”, il video dove spiega agli educatori come e cosa
insegnare ai cuccioli, è tuttora il dvd più venduto al mondo del settore.
Presidente della scuola Sirius Training School e
caposaldo del portale Dog Star Daily, sito di informazione cinofila sui cui
scrivono tra i più importanti esperti, è uno dei fondatori di Open Paws, un’
associazione che si occupa di aiutare i canili no-kill (perché in USA i cani
vengono ancora soppressi) nella gestione, nel recupero dei cani e nella
formazione degli operatori. Considerato da molti il “padre” della educazione
cinofila moderna, ha più di 30 anni di esperienza ma non è certo una persona
che vive di rendita. Le sue conoscenze sono in continua evoluzione e la
collaborazione con l’università di Berkley con la quale conduce ricerche a
lungo termine non fanno che incrementare ciò che Ian Dunbar condivide con il mondo. Mondo che gira molto spesso, poiché è
frequentemente chiamato come relatore in ogni continente in particolare in
America, dove vive, in Europa e in Giappone dove è un vero e proprio idolo. Ian Dunbar è semplicemente un uomo senza pari.
CURRICULUM Il dott. Dunbar ha conseguito una
laurea in veterinaria, una laurea con lode in Fisiologia e Biochimica presso il
Royal Veterinary College (Università di Londra ) un dottorato in comportamento
animale presso il Dipartimento di Psicologia presso l'Università di California
a Berkeley, dove ha trascorso dieci anni alla ricerca della comunicazione
olfattiva, lo sviluppo del comportamento sociale gerarchico e l'aggressività
nei cani domestici . E’ membro del Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, la Società Internazionale
per l’ Etologia applicata, l'American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior,
la California Veterinary Medical Association, la Sierra Veterinary Medical
Association e l'Associazione dei Pet Dog Trainers (che lui stesso ha fondato ).
E’ entrato nella Compagnia dell’Etologia Veterinaria (oggi la Società Internazionale
per Etologia applicata) oltre 35 anni fa, momento in cui egli era l'unico
membro specializzato in problemi di comportamento del cane e del gatto. Più
tardi è stato coinvolto nella creazione del SVE americano (ora l'American
Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior ) . Ha scritto numerosi libri, tra cui “Come insegnare a un nuovo cane vecchi
trucchi” , “il piccolo libro del buon cane” e una serie di opuscoli su problemi
comportamentali ed educativi, più una serie di video dedicati sia ai
proprietari che agli istruttori cinofili con programmi formativi, tra cui il
famoso SIRIUS ® Puppy Training. Il dr. Dunbar è stato invitato a sviluppare e scrivere (per oltre sette anni )
GURI la colonna della American Kennel Club
(l’ENCI americano) sul comportamento ed è stato votato Miglior Colonna
sul cane per diversi anni dall’Associaz ione degli Scrittori di cane d'America . Nel 1993, il Dr. Dunbar ha fondato l'Associazione dei Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) negli Stati Uniti e ha organizzato le prime due Conferenze annuali.
